BOAT Race-winning cox Jack Tottem has had a bird’s eye view of the build-up to this year’s 168th varsity clash, going head-to-head with both Blue Boats in the run-up to the Sunday, March 26 encounter.

The Wye steersman, who learnt to row at Monmouth School, steered a turbo-powered Oxford crew to victory in the 167th race last April.

WALES cox Darcy Birkett steered her London University A crew to fifth in the world’s biggest all-female rowing race - the Women’s 8s Head, reports NICK HARTLAND.

And Cardiff University rowed brilliantly to take one of the pennants in the prestigious 320-boat championship time-trial, racing home 55th to claim the Challenge Academic class.

Congratulations to Carmarthen Rowing Club on receiving the Runner-up prize for Community Club of the Year in the Annual Carmarthenshire Sports Awards

A WELSH club raced to an amazing 10 golds at the World Rowing Masters Regatta in France, as 3,200 competitors from more than 50 countries launched out in 4,365 boats, reports NICK HARTLAND.

WELSH rowers checked out in the Czech Republic with a world championship gold, silver and three bronzes.

Harry Brightmore’s GB men’s 8 were unstoppable leading from start to finish, while Tokyo Olympic silver medallist Tom Barras stroked the men’s quad to a season-best second.

ROWING star Robbie Prosser added European 8s U23 bronze to his glittering collection in Belgium.

The GB oarsman, who comes from Llangattock near Crickhowell and learnt to row on the Wye at Monmouth School, took world U23 coxed four gold in a new world record time in Italy four weeks earlier.

MATT Aldridge and Harry Brightmore stormed to gold at the European Championships on the Munich Olympic course, while fellow Welsh rower Ollie Wynne-Griffith took silver in the men’s pairs and Ben Pritchard battled to bronze in PR1 singles, reports NICK HARTLAND

Aldridge’s GB men’s four dominated their final into the strong headwind, leading by 1/4L from the Dutch boat at the 500m mark before squeezing away to win by clear water in 6.15.43.

WELSH junior rowers Lucy Thomson and Lily Wood stormed to three golds and a silver to help the GB team take the 12 nation Coupe de la Jeunesse trophy once again, reports NICK HARTLAND.

Royal Chester sculler Thomson teamed up with Anna Cowells of Sir William Perkins’ School to take double sculls gold in Castrelo de Mino in Spain on day one of the 37th Coupe regatta.

WALES’ rowers saved their best until last as they roared to Blue Riband men’s 8s glory in the Home Countries Regatta’s 60th anniversary event, reports NICK HARTLAND.

The men’s quad scull also took out the end—of-day sprint title at London Docklands, while there were also 10 second places including by a canvas for Cedol Dafydd (University of Bath RC) and Aidan Thompson (Twickenham RC) in the doubles.
