Development > Coaching
Coaches make up a large part of the workforce within clubs all over Wales. The essential work that the coaches provide continually drives forward rowing in Wales, ensuring that the rowers progress and enjoy the sport, whilst maintaining a safe environment for all.
Coaching can be a great way to enjoy rowing from a whole new perspective and progress your skills. It's really easy to get into and doesn't cost to start on the pathway. Begin by talking to other coaches at your club and start shadowing and supporting other coaches. When you are ready to learn more and wanting to lead on sessions the Level 2 certificate is available throughout Wales. Welsh Rowing will also host workshops and conferences throughout the year to provide more learning opportunities. Further learning material and opportunities can also be found within the boathouse.
Level 2 Coaching Certificate
The UKCC Level 2 in Coaching Rowing is the recommended minimum safety requirement for lead coaches. Rather than developing coaching skills, a Level 2 Certified Coach will operate safely when working with indivduals both on and off the water. Welsh Rowing uses this certificate in partnership with British Rowing and 1st4Sport. The course is available to both river and sea rowers with just small differences allowing tutors to teach a group even if there are rowers from both disciplines on the same course.
For more information about the Level 2, its pre-requisites or to book a place on a course please follow this link to the British Rowing website. Further information can be obtained through contacting our Development Officer. Those wanting to progress to Level 3 or obtain their Level 2 in Strength and Conditioning should find courses through British Rowing.
Indoor Rowing Workshop
